Dr. Carmen Thompson
I am a registered psychologist in the Provinces of British Columbia and Alberta with extensive experience in health and human services, counsellor training and education, mental health and addictions, rehabilitation, and health promotion. I completed my doctorate (PhD) in Counselling Psychology at the University of Calgary.
Over the course of my career, I have provided psychological assessment and treatment to individuals and groups in a variety of settings, with current emphasis on promoting wellbeing across the lifespan, mental health, couples, military populations, and return to work after injury or illness.
I provide evidence-based psychological treatment for adults and adolescents with a wide variety of challenges. My areas of practice include trauma, body image and disordered eating, stress, anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief and loss, return to work, and workplace and relationship difficulties.
In working with clients I draw from a range of techniques and experiences. I have completed specialized training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and have practiced in a variety of settings, such as mental health and addictions, university counselling, family therapy programs, and rehabilitation.
My work is guided by the belief in human resilience and capacity for growth, fulfillment, and meaning in varied circumstances. When working with clients I prioritize collaboration, evidence based treatment approaches, and respect and safety in the therapeutic relationship.
I work closely with clients to ensure that services meet their needs and address personally meaningful goals. Whether you seek increased wellbeing, closeness in relationships, self-acceptance, or increased energy and motivation, I look forward to supporting you on your journey.
